Chapter 46: Law

I must have asked her four times, “You can see them?” and each time she nodded or said yes. I didn’t think anyone else would ever see the marks that bound us all together, but Renée could. Not only the marks on Alexandria and Mandy, but those amber streaks of not-really-light all of us had.

“When did it happen?”

“I first noticed Alexandria’s and Mandy’s after you finished in each of them. Then I looked and found the same mark on each of us.” She sounded as amazed as I felt. “You’re abilities are still growing, still evolving.”

I nodded. “And I’m now able to make others feel my thoughts.” Renée looked at me. I explained the more subtle details of my encounter with Alexandria and what I had been thinking on when it just suddenly happened. I didn’t feel any different for it. “It’s more like an extension of my Charm or Empathy, maybe both.”

“It could even be the dreams brought to conscious thought,” she suggested.

I looked at her. I had been watching the other girls talking to our newest family members. It was interesting how quickly and easily everyone accepted the new additions. I had been worried about Mandy’s reception, but they treated her just as readily as Alexandria. In fact, to some degree, she received a bit more attention. Her silky fur was difficult to resist. Occasionally, I had caught a look, a glance or a smile. They knew I was watching and some of them enjoyed that just as much as feeling me touch them. Renée’s mentioning our recently shared dream had caught my attention. I had just been wondering what our shared dreams that night would involve.

“We’ll know for sure tonight. Earlier, while looking over everyone’s code, I removed that bit from those you had modified. If I’ve evolved, then so has our connection, and it may now include shared dreams.” I watched the girls again too.

“What about Alexandria and Mandy? Vikkor is bound to have passwords on them.”

“True,” I glanced over to the curtain that led to her hidden exit. “I doubt she’ll share them tonight. Tomorrow, when I return for Chloe, I’ll get them.”

“She’s not going to just turn them over. You really pissed her off with all of this,” Renée held out her hands to the mural rug to indicate the show that had finished only a few minutes earlier.

“She is correct,” agreed a deep voice. Law had maneuvered around the crowd and stood a respectful distance away. Renée and I both turned as one to meet his eyes. As before, he bowed only his head with his eyes closed. I returned the gesture.

“You don’t believe Vikkor will give up the passwords for Alexandria and Mandy?” I asked the very tall, very large man.

He shook his head solemnly. “She is prideful and very stubborn. Until today, no one has ever turned from her to take a new master. No one.” He looked over to Alexandria. “You would do well to find a way to protect her with your abilities. If Vikkor has passwords for them, as you suggest, then your only course of protection would be to move outside her effective range of control.” That meant getting Mandy and Alexandria at least a hundred miles from Vikkor’s facility, probably further.

I didn’t like that idea. I wasn’t sure they would be willing to go and there was still the problem with our connection. There had to be a solution that worked. Mandy was supposed to seduce me and find out what modifications I had through the program. “Do you think Vikkor can be bought?”

Law’s eyebrows creased. “She already has a small fortune and a business that allows her to travel easily. Money means nothing to her.”

“What about code from Master PC?”

The big man looked thoughtful. “That may work, if it is something she can use. If you mean to turn over the code that allows you the same abilities as you’ve demonstrated, then she may accept it as compensation for taking her women.”

“But would that get me their passwords?”

He shook his head again. “I don’t know.”

I nodded and held out my hand to shake. “Thank you.”

Law looked at my offered gesture. “Alexandria was right. You gain something with touch.” He was wary and considering the show he witnessed, I didn’t blame him.

“I gain nothing but what you offer. I may have problems keeping them happy,” I gave Renée’s waist a squeeze, “but of this I am in complete control. Touching allows me to share memories and it is a two-way street. I look at it like asking personal questions, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I can’t force my way into your thoughts or anything like that, and if it happens you’ll be aware of it.” I looked at my own hand and back up to his eyes. “This is nothing but as it appears. I don’t care for those games.”

He listened, looked at my hand and finally enveloped mine with his. He could have crushed the tiniest bones in my fingers but he applied only the right amount of pressure for a solid hand shake. Nothing happened, just as I had offered. When we pulled back from the shake, he let out a breath. I was surprised.

“You didn’t entirely trust me, did you?”

“I have been playing those games for a few years. Vikkor never lets up. It’s how she does everything. Nothing happens without some ulterior meaning.” Weariness crept across his eyes; I didn’t need to touch him to know just how much those games affected him.

“Then why do you put up with it? You’re a User, protect yourself and yours and ignore her.”

Again, he shook his head. “Vikkor is far more accomplished at manipulating people. Currently we are in agreement to not affect each other or our subjects without permission. Even then, getting permission is difficult.”

It was my turn to shake my head, Renée answered for me though. “You don’t honestly believe that she’s keeping up her end on that bargain, do you?”

Law looked to her and let out a deep sigh. “I don’t know anymore.”

“Then go somewhere, find a nice quiet place with your computer and find out. Make sure you and yours not only have only the code you’ve put there but that all of you have passwords.” I suggested.

His look shifted. “You’ve mentioned passwords. How do I add them?”

I didn’t let my astonishment show. I suspected that he may not have known. It would be like Vikkor to find such a handy security measure and not even share it with her allies. “Go to help and type in passwords. It will tell you step-by-step.”

Law nodded. “Thank you.” He hesitated for a second and then asked, “Why would you help me?”

“I tried to explain it to Vikkor; I don’t care for taking anyone else’s subjects. If you want an agreement that will not only protect you, but you could benefit from too then I would be willing to accept. I believe in sharing and helping others and not even for personal gain. Just knowing that I’m making a difference in someone’s life makes me feel better.”

Law nodded and held out his hand, “Agreed.”

I took it. He may have been Vikkor’s ally and even part of her showboat for the night, but if my suspicions of her were correct, their treaty was probably void by her doing. I actually hoped that I wasn’t right, but she didn’t seem to just take anyone at their word. She also seemed the type to take advantage of people when the opportunity arose too. Law had a wisdom born of common sense. How he got the program wasn’t really any of my business, but he really didn’t seem the type to have a computer. Just the size of his hands suggested against the possibility.

A tap on my shoulder interrupted not only our conversation, but my thoughts. Erin stood there, holding out a folded piece of paper. “Chaos wants to talk,” she summed up.

Ral,

The entrance to my room is behind the curtain behind my chair. I would enjoy a few minutes of your time. Please stop by before leaving.

Chaos

“You were lucky she didn’t crawl over and join you on the floor,” Law chuckled.

I looked up. “I saw the show she was putting on, and the looks aimed at me.”

“That was no show. That is what it is always like around her. She always has at least one of her men following her to please her unquenchable thirst. She even tried to tempt me into her bed once.” He seemed more relaxed, more at ease since the beginning of our conversation. Maybe the new pact helped him in just having someone to talk openly to. Hopefully it would help both of us.

“I take it you turned her down?” Renée asked with a slight grin on her face.

He looked over at her, a similar grin playing on his rugged face. “Flat.” He looked around to the three blondes standing close by. When his eyes found them, they closed the distance and hung on him like some of my girls would me. “I have plenty of attention.”

I nodded. Each of Law’s girls was very attractive and though from the distance they looked alike, I could tell they weren’t triplets. Glances from each warned me of my presence, maybe Law should be notified. “Law, you may want to get your girls home. You may find them quite willing by the time you get there.”

He looked down to them and they all met his eyes. I knew those looks. They wanted him and soon. He saw it too and looked up to me. “Did you do something?”

I shook my head. “Not intentionally. Some of my granted abilities need tuning up. I don’t have full control over this one. I inspire lust in those I find attractive. Your girls are gorgeous. I don’t think you have anything to worry about though, except maybe getting some extra water into your system tonight.”

He understood that implication. “I believe our treaty will be a very interesting and entertaining one.” He turned, his girls following closely. “I offer you and all yours a good evening Ral.”

“You as well, my new friend.” I returned as they ducked out of the lined hallway leading out of the facility.

I turned to the gathering of girls who had moved closer while Renée and I spoke to our newfound ally. “Well, one more short meeting and we’re outta here.”

Erin looked exasperated. “You’re actually going to meet her?”

I grinned. “Talk, yes. Nothing more. That’s just too much blue and in all the wrong places.” Everyone chucked. “Okay, Alexandria, why don’t you go and get clothes and anything else you need. Mandy, you do the same.”

Mandy looked down, crossed her arms over her stomach and then looked back up. “I don’t have anything to get. Vikkor threw away my clothes.”

I asked, “Do you have a blanket? Anything to cover up with?”

She just shook her head, not even having to think about it.

Alexandria was the one to help. “I’ve got a long coat. She can wear it until she can get some clothes.”

I nodded. “Thank you. That’ll work until I get her back to my place.” I turned and Mandy smiled meekly. To the rest I said, “Everyone work out rides and where everyone’s staying tonight. I don’t think my bed will hold all of us.” There were a few chuckles and even a murmur or two of complaint.

I stepped away to meet Chaos. I really didn’t want to try and fight her off. Hopefully, she didn’t need sex. She had three studs for that.
