Can’t Buy Me Love

Lucy O’Donnell just didn’t get it.

Why did everyone else think she was crazy when she was sure everyone else was completely bonkers?

She’d been in orbit over the planet Lastalla with her capsule mate, Diamante when the sensors had suddenly come alive. They had inbound traffic.

That was surprising enough in and of itself. Lastalla was hardly a backwards planet but it was a quarantined world. It was a planet of women and men were not allowed to land but that didn’t stop some men from trying to make their way onto the planet.

That’s why Lucy and Diamante and the others like them in the space corps were where they were, to track incoming intruders and if necessary, to be the first line of defense. Their presence wasn’t exactly public knowledge and they most definitely did not have the fire power to take on all comers, but they were there to be of service if that service were needed.

Most of the time, these missions were routine with hours upon hours of sheer uninterrupted boredom so crewmates found ways to keep themselves alert. Lucy had even heard of some crewmates who were partnered together in more ways than one. This wasn’t specifically allowed but the powers that be seemed to turn a blind eye to such endeavors as long as the crew’s performance was unaffected.

But that wasn’t the way it was with her and Diamante. Diamante was a pretty, young thing. Black skin, dark eyes, and a quick wit, and a smile that just seemed to light up her face, but Lucy didn’t need a life parter. She already had one of those and her name was Michelle, and that was what was so completely strange. Only Lucy, it seemed, had any knowledge of Michelle.

It was hardly a surprise that Michelle wasn’t there to greet her when she returned from orbit. Debriefing took forever and there was no telling how long it would take but Michelle had come to meet her after her first return from space but after Lucy had found her partner asleep on one of the waiting room chairs, the two of them had quickly decided that Michelle coming to meet Lucy was maybe not the most effective use of Michelle’s time.

But when Lucy had arrived home, Michelle was not there, but more than that, there was nothing of Michelle’s there. Anything that might have belonged to her partner was gone.

The logical assumption of course was that Michelle had left her but Lucy found that hard to believe. There had been no arguments between them, no reason to leave, and there was no note or anything which might explain why Michelle might have left.

So Lucy did what she thought was the most logical thing to do. She went to find the landlord for the apartment that she and Michelle shared.

Loretta Martin was a sweet middle-aged woman with three cats who she doted on continuously and who never returned her affections. She looked up when Lucy entered her office. “Lucy, my dear. I didn’t realize you were back.”

“Yeah, the mission ended yesterday.”

“I see. What can I do for you, my dear.”

“I don’t know how to say this,” Lucy began.

“Is there a problem?”

“It’s my roommate.”

“Your roommate,” Loretta said. “You have a roommate? I didn’t know you had a roommate.”

“What do you mean you didn’t know I had a roommate? You’ve met her.”

“Oh, my dear. I’m sure that if you had a roommate and I’d met her, I’m sure I would have remembered her.”

“But, but you met her. I know you met Michelle.”

“Michelle? Michelle? No, I don’t think I know a Michelle.”

“But ... but you have to know her. We signed the lease together.”

“Oh no, my dear. No, I don’t think so. You must be thinking of the apartment before you rented mine because I’m sure yours is the only name on the contract.”

“What?!”

“I’m sure,” Loretta said.

“But ... but—”

“Is there anything else I can do for you?” the landlady asked.

Lucy shook her head. “No, nothing,” she said.

Okay, Lucy thought. So this was weird, but she’d get to the bottom of this, whatever ‘this’ was.

Michelle’s best friend, next to her, of course, was Sadie. Lucy and Michelle had met when the two of them were just kids and they’d literally grown up together, but Sadie had come along later. Her mom had moved into the neighborhood and Sadie and Michelle seemed to have hit it off right from the start. Lucy didn’t think that much of Sadie but it seemed as if Michelle was always trying to involve her in things that the three of them had done together and even though she and Michelle were now life partners, Lucy knew Michelle still stayed in touch with her friend.

The first call to Sadie wasn’t returned but that was hardly surprising. She really was Michelle’s friend more than hers.

The second call wasn’t returned either. So Sadie was dodging her, Lucy thought. Well, two could play at that game. She’d just have to go and see her.

Lucy parked her car outside Sadie’s apartment and she waited. Sadie would be home soon, or at least Lucy hoped so.

It was getting dark and there was still no sign of Sadie. Lucy was almost thinking that maybe she should go someplace and get a bite to eat. She could always come back later and check to see if the lights were on in Sadie’s apartment.

It was just that she’d spent this long already that she felt reluctant to give up her position.

She was almost ready to call it a day when she saw Sadie coming up. Finally, Lucy thought as she watched Sadie go into the building, and with that, she left her vehicle and followed the other woman inside.

She knocked on Sadie’s door and received no answer. She was about to knock again when the door finally opened.

Sadie was dressed in just a negligee as she stood there and looked at her guest. “Lucy?” she asked.

“Can I talk with you?” Lucy asked.

“Talk with me? About what?”

“It’s about Michelle.”

Sadie shrugged. “I guess,” she said. “Come on in.”

Finally, Lucy thought. Finally, she was going to get some answers and that was what she kept right on thinking right up to the point where Sadie asked her, “Who’s Michelle?”

“What?”

“I asked who’s Michelle?”

“You got to be kidding. You got to know who Michelle is.”

“I’m afraid not.”

“But you know who I am.”

“Of course I know who you are. We went to school together.”

“But you don’t know Michelle?”

Sadie shook her head and as far as Lucy could tell, her concern for her was genuine.

“You’re sure you don’t know what I’m talking about?”

Sadie shook her head. “Are you sure I can’t get you something?”

Lucy shook her head. She knew what she wanted, but no one, it seemed, was able to help her.

“You know,” Sadie said, “I’ve always liked you.”

Lucy wasn’t really paying attention to what Sadie was saying because she was trying to figure out what she should do next.

“I’ve always liked you,” Sadie said.

Lucy wasn’t listening to her friend.

“Can I hold your hand? I want to do it. I want to hold your hand.”

“What?”

Sadie grabbed her friend’s hand. “I want to hold your hand.”

Lucy’s attention was suddenly on Sadie. Why was her friend acting this way and ... and why was she responding to it.

“I want to hold your hand,” Sadie said again.

“W-w-why?”

“Listen. Do you want to know a secret?”

“Do I want to know what?”

Do you want to know a secret?”

“What?”

“I’ve always loved you, you know,” Sadie blurted out.

“What?”

“I’ve always loved you,” Sadie said.

“I didn’t know,” and really, Lucy thought, she didn’t know. How could she have known. Sadie had never said anything or done anything. How could she have known.

“You’re the girl that’s driving me mad,” Sadie said. “You’re driving me mad, but you don’t care.”

“I didn’t know.”

“Sure you didn’t. Do I have to keep talking till I can’t go on? I will you know. I want you. I want you bad.”

Lucy shook her head. This was all too weird.

“Do you like the way I look?” Sadie asked.

“The way you look?”

“Do you think I’m pretty?”

“Yeah, sure.”

“You’re just saying that, but you won’t see me.”

“What?”

Sadie grabbed Lucy’s hand and then she was pressing it against her body. “I don’t want to live in a world without love.”

“I didn’t mean to turn you on,” Lucy said.

“Sure you didn’t. Why’d you come around here anyway?”

“I came here to see if I could find Michelle.”

Sadie shook her head. “I have no idea what you’re talking about but I keep hoping you’ll come around. I keep hoping you’ll see me for who I am and if you do, that’ll be the day.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Sure you do. I already told you. I love you.”

“But I need to find Michelle.”

“Fine. Be that way. Treat me like the fool on the hill. Ignore me.”

“I’m not ignoring me.”

“No, it’s worse. You’re tormenting me.”

“I am not.”

“Yes you are.”

“It’s not my fault,” Lucy protested.

“Sure it’s not. You keep telling yourself that and who knows, you might even believe it.”

“But it’s the truth.”

“Yeah, sure it is, spaceman,” and with that, Sadie walked to the door of her apartment and she opened it. “Get out,” she said.

“What?!”

“You heard me. You think you got this friend of yours named Michelle. You think she loves you. Well fine. You go find her but leave me out of it.”

Lucy shook her head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Just get out,” Sadie said and when Lucy was out of the apartment, Sadie slammed her apartment door in Lucy’s face and even as Lucy stood there, she thought she could hear the woman start to cry on the other side of the door.

What the hell was going on here, Lucy wondered. Why was she the only person who seemed to know who Michelle was?

There was one person that Lucy had not yet talked to and in hindsight, Lucy had to wonder why. After all, this person knew her very, very well. She picked up the the phone and she waited for the other person to come on the line. “Hi,” she said. “It’s me. Can I come over?”

It wasn’t long before Lucy was standing outside another apartment and knocking on the other person’s door.

The door opened and Diamante looked at her friend.

“It’s me,” Lucy said.

“I know. Why don’t you come on in and tell me what’s the matter.”

Lucy stepped into the apartment and the door closed behind her.

“Can I get you something to drink?” her crewmate asked.

Lucy shook her head. “I’m not going to be here that long.”

“Really?”

Lucy nodded. “I think I’m going crazy but I wanted to ask you something.”

Did her friend seem to tense at Lucy’s words. It almost seemed like that but if that was what it was, it was only there for a moment and then in the next moment, it was gone. “Sure,” said her friend. “What do you want to know?”

“This is going to sound crazy,” Lucy began, “but do you know Michelle?”

“What? You mean your life partner? Is that the Michelle you mean?”

Lucy gasped. “So you do know her.”

“Well not that well,” Diamante said. “It’s really you that I know, and you’ve only introduced me to her a couple of times, but yeah, I do know her. Why?”

Lucy shook her head. “You’re not going to believe this but you’re the first person I’ve met since ... since we got back from our mission who even seems to remember her. Everyone else looks at me like I’m completely crazy.”

“You’re kidding.”

Lucy shook her head. “I almost thought I was going crazy. I mean no one seems to know her. You’re the only person I know who even seems to have any memory of her at all and that’s not the worst part of it. There’s not even anything of hers left in the apartment. It’s like ... it’s like she never existed.”

“That’s weird.”

“You’re not toying with me, are you, Dee? You’re not telling me what you think I want to hear. You really do know her, don’t you?”

“Yeah, I know her. Sometimes, I wish I didn’t but ...”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Diamante was silent.

“Come on, Dee. You’re hiding something. What is it?”

“You mean you really don’t know?”

“Know what? Dee, I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about. What are you talking about?”

The other woman was silent. “You ever wonder why we always ended up on the same team together?” she asked finally.

Lucy shook her head. “I figured we just worked well together. I would have said other people would have seen that and that was why they placed us together. Why? What do you think is the reason?”

“The reason is because I asked them to do it. I asked them to assign us together.”

“You did? But why?

“Isn’t it obvious. I want you. I always have but you were with Michelle so I figured if I couldn’t be with you all the time, I figured at least I could be with you when we were out on our missions.”

“But ... but you never said anything.”

“What, and run the risk of having you tell the flight leaders you didn’t want to fly with me? I couldn’t run the risk of having you do that so kept my mouth shut.”

“But why are you telling me now?”

“I don’t know. Maybe I just couldn’t keep it a secret anymore.”

Now, it was Lucy’s turn to be quiet. “So where does this leave us,” she said finally.

“I know what I want,” the other woman said.

“What?”

“I want to be with you if only just one time. I want to be with you.”

“But Michelle—”

“She’s not around. You said so yourself.”

“Yeah, but—”

The black woman stepped closer to her partner and then she was sliding her hands around the other woman’s waist. “Come on,” she said. “No one will know.”

“I’ll know.”

“Yeah,” said the other woman as she tugged Lucy’s shirt out of her jeans and then her hands were stroking Lucy’s bare skin. “But no one else will know.”

Lucy couldn’t help but shiver. There was just something about the other woman’s touch.

“Come on. You know you want to.”

“No, I shouldn’t,” Lucy whimpered.

“Of course you should,” said her friend even as she pulled Lucy’s shirt higher.

“Oh yeah,” Lucy moaned as the shirt was pulled up past her tits.

“You want to,” the other woman asked.

“I shouldn’t,” Lucy moaned.

Lucy gasped as the other woman’s hands fondled her breasts. “That wasn’t what I asked,” Diamante said. “I wanted to know if you wanted to.”

“I ... I ...”

Her friend’s hands released Lucy’s tits and then her arms were sliding around Lucy’s body and the black woman leaned in and kissed her friend. “Do you want to?” she asked again.

Lucy looked into her friend’s eyes, so deep and dark and she said the only word she could say. “Yes.”

The black girl kissed her again but it was already clear what they were going to do. She took Lucy by the hand. “Come on,” she told her friend and with that, she led an unresisting Lucy back into her bedroom.

Diamante pushed the other girl onto the bed and then she followed Lucy up onto the bed. In moments, she’d taken Lucy’s top all the way off and moments later, her top was gone as well, and she couldn’t help but moan as Lucy’s tongue licked at her nipples.

“Oh my God,” the woman moaned as she pushed Lucy back. “Oh my God. You don’t know just how long I’ve wanted to do this.”

She kissed Lucy again even as as a hand slid between Lucy’s legs and even as her fingers began to work their way between Lucy’s legs and even as her fingers began to rub her friend, she could feel Lucy writhing underneath those fingers.

Oh my God. That was so fucking hot.

“Let’s see what we got in here,” Diamante said as her hand unbuttoned the first button of Lucy’s jeans.

“Oh yeah,” the girl moaned.

“Yeah. That’s right. You want to see what Diamante can do for you, don’t you? Do you want me to go on?”

This was wrong, Lucy told herself. She shouldn’t be doing this and yet ...

“Well,” asked the other woman. “Do you want me to go on?”

“Yes-s-s-s,” Lucy moaned.

“Yeah,” the black woman purred as she opened the next button and then her hand slid inside the other woman’s jeans and she was rubbing her panties up against her pussy.

“Oh yeah,” Lucy moaned. “Oh yeah.”

“I think someone wants to get her pussy licked.”

“Oh yeah,” Lucy moaned and she really couldn’t believe just how hot this was making her. She really did want to get her pussy licked.

Off came her jeans and then off came her panties and there was Diamante, perched between her legs and suddenly her tongue was dipping down and ...

“Oh my God,” Lucy squealed. “Oh my God. That’s so good. Oh my sweet Lord, yeah. Lick me there. Oh geez. Lick me there.”

Lucy moaned as the other woman’s tongue did exactly what she asked of it. Her body writhed on the bed and she kept right on squealing but there was no getting away from what that tongue was doing to her.

“Oh my God,” she moaned yet again. “Oh my God.”

She was going to cum, Lucy knew. There was still a part of her that was telling her that she shouldn’t be doing this, but it wasn’t that hard to ignore that part. After all, she did want to cum. She wanted to cum really bad. In fact, it was all she could think of. She wanted to cum so bad.

The next morning found Lucy and Diamante in bed together, their naked bodies pressed up against one another. Lucy pressed her body against her friend’s and her hand stroked her lover’s tits before her lips found the other woman’s lips.

“Mmm,” the black woman moaned. “That’s nice to wake up to.”

Lucy kissed her friend again and her tongue slid inside her friend’s mouth before she kissed her once more again. “You’re right,” she said. “It is.”

“You know, I was thinking.”

Lucy kissed Diamante again. “Yeah? About what?”

“I was thinking that you come over here and I go over to your place, and we’re wasting money having two places all to ourselves so I was thinking maybe you should move in with me.”

“You mean it,” Lucy asked excitedly.

“Yeah sure. I mean I don’t have a life partner and you don’t have one either. It’s perfect. It was like we were made for each other so what do you think.”

“I think it’s a great idea,” Lucy said enthusiastically. After all, she and Diamante were perfect for one another. They already spent so much time together and it wasn’t like she actually had anyone else in her life. “I think it’s great,” she said again, “and just to show you how great it is, I’ve got something for you.”

“Yeah, what’s that?”

Lucy grinned as she slid into place between her partner’s legs. “What I was thinking of was something like a reward like this.”

Diamante moaned as she felt the other woman’s tongue slide between her legs. Her friend was right, she thought. That absolutely was the best reward she could get.
