Love Ring
Chapter 4
Both Jennifer and I turned in unison towards the door.
Why is he here?
“Babe, you home?” Mark’s voice shot out from behind the door. “Have you found the ring yet?”
His voice pierced through my ears as it shot me back to reality.
Jennifer must’ve not yet told Mark that I hid her ring. He said over the phone that he would come over to help her look for it after work.
What time is it?
I took a quick glance at the clock, it was already six in the evening.
Shit.
“Oh?” Jennifer said with a surprised look on her face. “Mark’s here.”
Quickly covering her mouth with my hand, I whispered to her to shush.
I was still on top of my naked sister.
Knock knock knock.
“Babe?” Mark called out again.
I quietly reached for a blanket to cover my sister with while I hurriedly put on my boxers.
Grabbing her clothes on the floor, I grabbed Jennifer’s hand.
“Don’t make any noise Jen,” I told her, slowly leading her towards her bedroom.
“But Mark’s here Jay. I have to tell him something.”
It felt as though someone had punched me in the gut. My face felt numb.
What does she want to tell him? Was she going to tell him that I hid the ring? Or would she tell him about what we just did?”
But seeing my sister only wrapped in a thin blanket, I brushed my thoughts aside. I needed to get Jennifer dressed first.
Jennifer’s phone suddenly started ringing on the dining table.
I rushed towards it to stop the ringing, but I saw her phone had ‘Mark ♡’ written on it in large white letters.
FUCK.
It’s over now.
The soft knocks on the door now sounded like loud bangs.
Mark called out again, louder this time, “Babe? Jennifer? Are you there? I know you’re home. Why aren’t you answering me?”
I turned around to find Jennifer, but she was already at the door.
“Hi Mark.” She greeted him while still wrapped in the blanket.
“Oh, wow,” Mark exclaimed, obviously taken aback seeing his fiancé half dressed. “Why are you dressed like that?”
He continued, “You know I was calling for you for like 5 minutes. Why didn’t you answer me?”
Jennifer didn’t answer. Instead, she widened the door, inviting Mark to come in.
Mark entered the apartment, his gaze immediately falling to my direction.
His eyes widened in surprise. “Oh! Uh, hi… Jason.” Instantly covering his eyes.
I was still in my boxers.
“H-Hi, Mark,” I replied awkwardly, moving my hands to cover my groin.
He must have sensed the tension in the room, because his eyes immediately darted to Jennifer, then back to me.
Mark said shakily, “Wait, what’s going on here? Why are both of you half naked?”
I made up an excuse. “Nothing, I was just about to shower. Jen was too.”
“Oh.” Mark gave a sigh of relief. “Sorry, I thought—”
As Jennifer closed the door, she dropped a bomb that shocked both Mark and I.
“Mark, I don’t want to get married anymore.”
A small smile crept up on my face on its own. I’m not losing my sister, I thought.
Mark was the first to speak. “What? Why? You were telling me about wanting to get married all these years.”
“Yeah, but I don’t love you anymore,” Jennifer said coldly.
Mark took a step backwards. “W—What do you mean?” His legs were trembling. “Did I—Did I do something wrong?”
Mark fell to his knees. “I don’t understand. Is this a joke? You—You’re joking, right babe?”
“No Mark. You didn’t do anything wrong.” Jennifer replied.
“Then why? We had such a good time last night. You… no. We were so happy. I don’t understand what I did wrong?”
“It’s not you Mark. It’s just that I realized I didn’t really love you. I love someone else.”
“Huh? Who is this someone?”
As much as I wanted my sister, I was beginning to feel bad for Mark. I couldn’t watch. Slowly, I started slinking towards my room.
Then Jennifer pointed her finger to me.
“Him.”
Mark turned around to look at me. His eyes were red, initially from sadness, but now turning to anger.
“Who—What?? Jason? He’s your brother!”
“So what?” Jennifer replied indifferently.
“You can’t be serious. You’re joking with me, right? Early April fools?” Mark forces a laugh amidst the tension and awkwardness.
“No Mark, I really love him. And he would’ve fucked me already if you hadn’t called out earlier.”
Mark retched, covering his mouth. “Wh—What the fuck did you just say? You guys were gonna… What?”
Mark pleaded, “Baby look, I don’t know what I did but I’m sorry, okay. Please. Just tell me this is a joke. We’re engaged, remember?”
Jennifer sighed. “Mark, I’m sorry, but I told you, I love my brother.”
She walked past Mark, grabbed my cheek, and planted a kiss onto my lips.
My body tensed up as we kissed in front of Mark. My cock started to get stiff. Making him jealous turned me on.
Seeing my bulge, Mark gasped in horror.
“Yo—you… you’re kissing…you—your brother? And you!” He points his shaking fingers at me. “You’re getting excited about this? That’s your fucking sister!”
Jennifer caressed my cock through my boxers, giving soft moans while still making out with me. She didn’t care that Mark was watching. She wanted her brother’s cock.
She didn’t care, but I did. I had to pull her away “Not now Jen. Mark’s still here.”
We both turned to Mark, whose face was fuming red.
“Y—You guys are sick. I can’t believe this. Three years down the drain, just like that. You did this.” Mark got up and walked towards Jennifer. “You fucking did this. You ruined everything.”
Looking straight at him, Jennifer answered apathetically, “I’m sorry, Mark.”
Mark demanded, “Then give me back my fucking ring!”
He attempted to pull the ring off Jennifer’s finger, but it would not come off.
“What the fuck!” Mark shouted as he tried to force the ring off Jennifer’s finger.
Jennifer tried to pull her hand away, “Stop it Mark! You’re hurting me!”
It was at that moment that I realized that the ring on Jennifer’s finger was not the engagement ring.
“No, stop!” I jumped in to stop Mark from removing the ring.
“Fuck off, Jason, you are equally responsible for this!” Mark shoved me off. “Get the fuck away from me!”
With a final tug, the ring came off Jennifer’s finger and fell onto the floor.
Jennifer stopped moving.
The ring started vibrating. I sprinted over to pick it up and shoved it into my pocket.
Mark flinched. “What the fuck? Jason, give me back my—”
“This isn’t your ring. I, uh… I also proposed to Jennifer with this ring.” I lied. “ Yours is by the dining table.”
“You… what?” Mark’s face clearly showed his shock and disbelief. “You proposed to—you know what? I don’t fucking care anymore.”
Mark got up and started walking to the dining table.
Jennifer’s body twitched, her eyes filled with horror when she saw my half naked body in front of her. When she saw Mark, she screamed for him. “Mark! You’re here! Help—”
Mark interjected, “Enough! I’m done with you.” He pocketed the engagement ring from the dining table.
Jennifer was stunned. She looked back at me. I gave her a crooked smile.
“No…” she gasped, realizing her naked body only being covered by a blanket. “Mark, it’s not what it looks like. Jason… He—”
“You kissed him, Jennifer. You kissed him in front of me.” Mark sighed, “You’ve done enough. There’s nothing more for you to say.”
Jennifer got up. “I w—what? But I didn’t…”
The ring began to vibrate harder in my pocket.
Shit.
Jennifer started walking towards Mark. “Mark, no! Please—”
I took the opportunity and tossed the ring into my room. Feeling the heat of the ring on my fingertips, it was much hotter than before.
“Stop. Don’t come near me.” Mark raised his hand, pushing Jennifer away. “You’ve hurt me enough. Just leave me alone okay.”
“No, Mark. Please listen—” Jennifer begged, but Mark left out the door before she could finish her sentence.
Jennifer’s hands that tried to grab Mark hung in the air, trembling. No words came out of her open mouth. She just took short sharp breaths, before letting out a piercing cry.
She turned to look at me. “Jason! What did you do?!” Coughing through her tears. “W—Why did he say I kissed you?”
She took steps towards me, but collapsed onto the floor before could reach me.
“Jen?”
I rushed to my sister. “Jen, are you okay?” I turned her body upwards, her face was pale.
I hurriedly lifted her into my room and placed her onto my bed.
The ring had just stopped vibrating when I entered my room.
When I picked it up, my suspicions were confirmed as I noticed that another engraving had disappeared. Now there was only a single engraving left.
These engravings… I still don’t know what they are.
Jennifer shot up from my bed. “Mark?!” She scanned her surroundings, realizing what had just happened.
“Oh, no…” She clutched her head, wincing from the pain due to her fall. “I thought it was just a bad nightmare…”
She slumped back onto my bed, defeated.
“Jason, my life is over. I don’t know what happened or what you did to me, but I’m done. I’m going to drop out of school and move back in with mom and dad.”
Closing my fist over the ring, “I’m sorry Jen, I didn’t want things to have turned out the way that it did. But I really didn’t want to lose you.”
“Yeah, but you are going to lose me now, Jason. I don’t want to be here anymore. And I never want to see you again.” Jennifer placed her hands over her eyes, hiding her tears. “I don’t know if I can ever forgive you, Jason.”
Sobbing, Jennifer continued, “I know we’ve grown up together. I always looked up to you as my big brother. But I never expected you to have done this to me.”
Guilt pierced through my entire body. I couldn’t speak, I had no words to say to defend myself. I swore to protect my sister, but I had just ruined her life.
I opened my fist to look at the ring. This mysterious ring that could make my sister “mine”. But it’s the same ring that made my sister want nothing to do with me anymore.
Just what the hell is this ring?
Seeing my sister in this condition, I just wanted to console her, to protect her. I decided that I was not going to use the ring anymore.
And at the very least, Jennifer deserved the truth.
Clearing my throat, “Jen… I have something to talk to you about.”
She lifted her head to look at me. Her beautiful gray eyes stared into mine once more, but now they were so sad. I have to confess about the ring to her.
“What?” she asked, more pain than curiosity in her voice.
I recounted what happened to Jennifer.
Jennifer furiously shouted at me. “Jay, you ruined my relationship. And now you are telling me stupid stories? Really? A magical ring?”
“No, I’m serious Jen.” Showing her the ring. “See, there were three engravings on it before, but there’s only one now.”
She took the ring from my hand, inspecting it, “And that’s why you gave me this ring this morning.”
I had to turn my body away from her, my face was red with embarrassment. I couldn’t face my sister.
“So… you’re saying that if I put this ring on, you can tell me what to do, and I’d listen?” she scoffed.
“Yeah, pretty much.” I told her. I had nothing else to hide from my sister.
“Yeah right.” Jennifer laughed.
Jennifer slipped on the ring, screaming at me, “You know what Jason? You want me so much? You can have me.”
My eyes widened as I reached out to stop her, I did not expect Jennifer to put the ring on herself voluntarily after hearing what had happened.
I stood there expectantly for my sister to suddenly stop moving as she had done before.
But it never happened.
“Yeah, see.” Jennifer wiggled her fingers in front of me. “Nothing happened.”
