The Erotic Mind-Control Story Archive

This story came about from an “Iron Writers” contest on the MC Garden, with the “ingredients” for our stories being “a birthday and a box of some kind”. This is the story I came up with for it. My thanks to Wyn for running the contest, and to Steph, sara, James, and all, for their comments and support.

On the Three Days of Birthday...

Chapter 1: Allow Me to Present...

There’s an old Celtic tradition that there’s actually three days of one’s birthday... the day before, the day of, and the day after. The day “before” is symbolic of one’s past—the things you’ve done, the things you’ve learned, the people you’ve known, and what you’ve made of your life. The day “of” signifies one’s present —where you are now, how you feel, and the fact of your continuing existence, which is something to celebrate, indeed. The day “after” represents one’s future—what you hope for, who you’ll be with, and what you’re going to do to advance and be happy with your remaining life.

Well... if they don’t have that tradition, then they should. You know how those Celts are....

—Kelvin Throop III’s daughter

Jennifer woke up on Saturday as she generally did... tired and a bit hung over. At least last night she’d had an excuse, as she and a couple of friends had celebrated her 28th birthday two days early. She would pay for that this morning, she knew, but not too badly. They hadn’t stayed out that long, after all, as only Rachel and Clarice had been there buying her drinks. A bigger turnout would’ve been nice, but, as per, her birthday fell in early August, a time when so many people were gone on vacations, or family outings, or the like.

Having it come up on a weekend was even worse, as then there were trips to the parks, and lakes, and all sorts of competing interests for Jennifer Clark’s birthday celebration.

She was used to it by now, though, and rather quiet birthdays were the norm for her. Jennifer knew she’d be getting a call from the parents over the weekend, along with some cards from relatives and a few friends; and that, and last night’s quick gathering, were enough for her.

At least they were enough for her to believe they were enough for her.

Nevertheless, the coffee was going, the newspaper was here, and she had her self-splurge shopping spree coming up later today, so she’d be all right. Tomorrow, her actual birthday, would be a hair more difficult, but she knew she’d get through it, same as always.

Feeling a bit guilty for thinking such negative thoughts, and for still being in her blue, cotton PJ’s at one o’clock in the afternoon, Jennifer had just padded over to the coffeemaker on the kitchen counter when the doorbell rang. Startled, she yelled out, “Just a minute!” and raced into the bedroom to grab her robe. By the time she’d gotten it semi-on and semi-tied, the bell was going off again.

“Just a second... I’m coming!”

Glancing through the peephole in her apartment’s front door, she saw what looked like your prototypical delivery person... a youngish, innocent-looking guy, wearing one of those fascist-looking, monochromatic uniforms. There also seemed to be something beside him, a bit taller than he was, all silvery and metallic. What the hey? she thought.

Finally, not quite ready to risk opening the door, she called out, “I see you, but what do you want?”

“I’m here to deliver a birthday present to a Jennifer Clack or Black or Clark. My consignment sheet got rained on, sorry. I’m to say it’s a gift from... um, the R & D Department at Florida Industries.”

Jennifer couldn’t help but smile at his flustered voice as she opened the door to the extent of the chain.

“Try that business name again,” she said, staring out at him

He looked at his wet clipboard sheet, frowning, and tried, “Flarion Industries?”

“Close enough. It’s Flurion Industries, and that’s where I work.” Looking over his shoulder at what appeared to be just a very tall, metal box, she asked, “Are you saying this thing is a birthday present for me?”

“Look, lady, I don’t know. All I know is what it says here, and that I have to get it into your apartment and get you to sign for it before I go. So could we do that, please? This storm already has me running late.”

“Okay, okay... let me get the chain and you can wheel the dang thing in here.”

“Thanks!”

For the next few minutes, they twisted, pulled, and pushed her “present”, until they finally managed to get it through the door and into her living room. In actuality, it was almost exactly as wide, on all four sides, as her apartment door, and about three inches shorter. It had to weigh well over a hundred pounds, too, and without his dolly, they would never have managed it.

Even with her curiosity so piqued by her gift, Jennifer couldn’t help but notice all the sneaky glances the delivery fellow was giving her. Such things happened, as she knew she wasn’t without certain... assets. But he was cool about it, so she was, too, and they both seemed happy enough when she finally signed his damp invoice and he took off to finish his deliveries.

Completely intrigued, and more than a bit stunned and confused that the place she worked would send her something so massive, would send her anything for her birthday, Jennifer walked all around the big box, examining it. She was so happy and surprised to get it, she didn’t even mind that it was dripping and draining rainwater onto her rug.

Three sides of it were very simple... just straight, smooth, metallic walls. She could see slightly opened seams on the fourth side though, giving that “wall” the appearance of a door. There was also a shrink wrap-covered, electronic control panel in the middle of it.

And there, under the plastic wrap, was a small, yellow envelope.

Figuring one is supposed to unwrap a birthday present, she tore the covering off the panel and grabbed the letter, opening it to read....

Hi, Jennifer... As a birthday gift to you as one of our many wonderful employees, and given that you have no pre-existing knowledge of this, our newest product, we are allowing you to be one of the first real-world testers of the SARAH-3000 (Sensory Adjusting Reality Amplifier Housing... yess, a stretch, but the woman most responsible for its development is named Sarah). Unfortunately, it will seem somewhat of an “Indian gift”, all PC aside, as we’ll need to take it back on Monday for technical reassessment and readings. However, we hope in the time you have it you’ll find it a rather wonderful birthday treat.

Its rules of use are simple... You will get four sessions in the SARAH. Simply press the “Session” button, and then the numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4, in normal order. You must wait a few hours between sessions (the first “intermission” will be for six hours... after that, the SARAH will tell you how long), as the machine will refuse you entry, otherwise. After successful entry of a session number, the door will open outward, and you should step inside. At the end of each session, the door will open again, and you should exit. That’s about it, really.

Please know a few things before use (we would be more disclosive, but a large part of the testing is getting your first-time reactions to it, without giving you a chapter-and-verse description of everything in advance). You will see and feel very... very... realistic images and sensations after your session starts. Some of the input for your visualizations will come from pre-stored, randomized social situations and interactions. But some of the input will come from machine readings of your own mind and bodily reactions, taking your “feedback” and incorporating it into the session.

So please, just try to just let yourself go a little, and then prepare to be surprised.

Finally, please know this machine is totally safe, as it’s been tested and tested with no adverse affects to anyone, ever. It’s no different, really, than watching a very good television set for hours. It’s just more total, more immersive. Also, there’s a push pad to the inside left of the door that will open it at any time. So, if you ever desire to leave the SARAH before the end of a session, you may, no problem and no questions asked.

Your supervisors have already been informed that you won’t be in on Monday, and that you will be on assignment to us for the day, along with the reasons why. You simply need to wait at your apartment for the unit to be picked up, and then, rather than reporting to your workstation, you will report to the R & D Department on the second floor for evaluation and debriefing. As you’ve probably guessed, your feelings about the use and effectiveness of the SARAH will be essential to our evaluations of it.

If you have any questions on any of this, I will be available on my cell phone... 555-1214... at any time over the weekend.

It’s really simple, all told, so don’t be afraid of using the SARAH, or of breaking it in any way. Here’s hoping you enjoy it, can give us some really useful feedback on Monday, and that you have a very Happy Birthday, Jennifer.

Carol Clausen
Administrator of Research & Development
Flurion Industries

Jennifer had actually heard of, and even seen, Carol Clausen, and would probably recognize the department head if she walked into her apartment right now. To the best of her knowledge, they’d never chatted, though, so wondered why she’d been selected for this, despite the fact of her birthday.

That thought was in and out of her mind in a moment, though, as her natural curiosity about the SARAH-3000 took over. This box, which reminded her of a high-tech, smaller version of Dr. Who’s Tardis, sounded more like a state-of-the-art virtual reality machine than anything else. She had to admit that thought excited her, too, as she was a game aficionado, and was already wearing out the second controller for her XBox.

She knew she could probably wait a while before beginning the first session, but the surges of anticipation within her were too much to resist. For a moment, she imagined Carol laughing at her emotional decision-making, both of them knowing what the obvious outcome would be.

So, Jennifer gave in to her curiosity. Her need for coffee gone, heart pounding, she pushed the “Session” button, and then number 1.
